I will own one of these suckers on Sunday

I last left you with quite a cliffhanger. I know, you were all just waiting on the edge of your seats wondering how and if I could continue. After the groin pull incident I was laid up for about 5 days. Went to the doctor. Doc advised that there is no structural damage, no hernia, just a pull. Ice it and work through it, but don’t rush it. Don’t RUSH IT?! I have three weeks to the MUDDER!

Thunderdome Running and I revamped my running schedule to accommodate for the lost days and we hit the pavement again on August 16th, 2012. We hit the pavement, but I was slow, I was gimpy and I was worried.  Push through it was all I could do. I could maintain a slow job, but any extension past a jog shot pain up my groin and abdomen. Sucked. Regardless, as the Doc advised, the pain would subside so long as I didn’t push it, I stretched and I kept going. I did and, within another week I was back and running like normal! Well, close to normal, I still can’t fully sprint and cant jump off the right leg, but I can maintain a fast run and have full range. So were kind of good.

I will condense these three weeks because, well, its pretty much the same as the last three. I ran a crap ton, I went to TNT a couple more times (although this I had to cut back on because the groin was too painful, but I could do the lifting, just not the lunging, etc). Overall though, I got in some key upper body strength workouts and the Thunderdome running kept my cardio improving.

So, am I ready for the Tough Mudder? I would say “Yes”. I will have to be careful to land correctly when traversing the obstacles so that I don’t twist the old groin. The only obstacle which requires speed and maybe a sprint is Everest (video below);

Everest has me worried. I will jog/run/go as fast as I can and hope to get up it. If i was 100% I could sprint up that sucker no problem……but I am old now and shit doesn’t heal as quickly. Regardless, I will get up Everest.

The rest of the obstacles require crawling, jogging, carrying, climbing, but nothing I cant do. My endurance is great. Thunderdome has me all locked in so I am not worried about being too gassed to continue. So, I will finish, I will likely pull the groin again, but I will continue on and finish. Monday will be spent on the couch in pain, but I will be wearing an orange headband and looking at awesome photos!

I will provide a Tough Mudder experience post and a recap with details. I can’t wait. The training has me down 14 pounds and I feel great. I cut way down on the booze/beer and have been eating great….amazing that I feel great. Mrs. Beefe is in the Mudder on Saturday and I run Sunday. Hopefully the Beefe’s will send me some photos and tips on what the Wisconsin Mudder experience has in store for me, but, other than that, I am as ready as I can be!

I now leave you with another training video to keep you going! This montage is as ridiculous as my recapping of a month+ of training has been.
